Gorge Ride 2010
The fourth annual Gorge Ride sponsored by the Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, beginning at the Gorge Discovery Center, 5000 Discovery Drive, in The Dalles, Oregon. It will extend 19.25 miles along the historic highway and State Trail to the west to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead, just east of Hood River. This route will be a combination of historic highway that is open to motor vehicles, with very low traffic, and the HCRH State Trail that is open only to hikers and bicyclists. This will be an out and back route of 38.5 miles. This ride is supported with water stops, snacks, mechanical support and SAG wagons. Maps with cue sheet and elevation chart will be provided.
Registration will open here on-line in February through Tuesday, June 8th with a non-refundable registration fee of $30 per rider. Day of ride registration will be available at the Gorge Discovery Center for $40. A sack lunch from the Basalt Rock Café, within the Gorge Discovery Center, will be available for purchase during on-line registration for $11. T-shirts in light blue featuring a Gorge Ride graphic will be available for purchase during on-line registration for $15. Pick up your T-shirt day of ride as you register. Packet pickup will be at the Gorge Discovery Center on June 12 from 7 AM to 10 AM. Course opens at 7 AM and closes at 4 PM. Participants will be required to sign our waiver and release form at packet pickup. Riders under 18 years-of-age must be accompanied on the ride by a registered adult and their waiver and release form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Participants must wear an ANSI or Snell approved helmet. Below are links to view photos of previous Gorge Rides. Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway’s vision is to restore and preserve the existing drivable portions of the historic highway to their splendid 1920s appearance and link drivable portions with pedestrian and bicycle accessible connections, creating a continuous route through the Columbia River Gorge from Troutdale to The Dalles, Oregon. Proceeds from this event go toward restoring and reconnecting the Historic Columbia River Highway by its 100th Birthday on June 7, 2016.
